Does the plugin class get instantiated for each request or just once when it's first instantiated?

I guess more specifically can I use or depend on instance variables for or in a user session or not.

NM, answered my own question...can't use instance variables.

As you discovered, plugin objects are instantiated per-request.  You can depend on instance variables within a single request, but not across multiple requests.
