Okay, published my first Plug-in. Now I am playing around with ideas for a second, which raised this question:

Is there anything in the API that will help me to overload the search functionality in the toolbar?

I tried IPluginSearchToolbar, but it seems to work on the Search RESULTS toolbar instead (probably a bad name for the interface).

Here's an example of the general type of functionality I'd like to implement:
Add a checkbox next to the search toolbar to allow the user to exclude closed cases without remembering the search syntax. 

I'm not seeing anything in the documentation that indicates this is possible, but wanted to confirm before giving up on the plug-in idea.

Sorry, this isn't currently possible.

Oh well. On to the next idea.
